Review the description of a command at the beginning of the last lesson.

This lesson covers the MUMPS commands. A command identifies an action to be performed on an expression. We will classify them into five groups:
  1. Data Manipulation
  2. Flow Control
  3. IO
  4. Transaction Processing
  5. System
For this course, the most important commands are Data Manipulation, Flow Control and IO. The Transaction Processing commands are extremely important when building an application for deployment. These commands will be covered in the MUMPS Programming II course. The VIEW command in the System category is only of interest to programmers who write system utilities.

You've already used some of the most important commands such as the READ, SET ,etc. The best way to learn language elements is to use them. Consequently, we will not elaborate on the commands here. We will jump right into the workshop exercises. You probably thought we would never get here did you :D

Read the entire Unit 3 and make sure you understand the specifications. Each lesson in Unit three will be dedicated to building the modules specified. We will start with the Create/Edit Database Entries
module, building it step by step. As we need the commands and expression elements, we will review them.
