Post subject:  Control +Z combination will not activate bar menu

Good morning,

Location: Introduction to M programming—3. Unit – Standard M Commands—2. Lesson – Data Manipulation Commands 1. Concept – Set Command

Issue: When I get into the editing window, I cannot get out, the control + Z combination does not activate the Bar menu.

And I have found several ways that do not work,
Any suggestions?

Steve.....

Obsolete - Ignore

Applying Occam's Razor, the solution seems to be simple. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Having the gnome-terminal Menubar active causes the problem. To deactivate the menubar, simply do these steps:

  1. Bring up the CBI terminal by double clicking on the apple icon.
  2. In the menu, execute the Edit|Profile Preferences command.
  3. Uncheck the Show menubar by default in new terminal and close the dialog.
  4. Close the terminal window by hitting Enter at the CBI login form.
  5. Double click the apple icon again and the menu should not be there.

This deactivates the menubar for all new terminal instances. To reactive it, do these steps:

  1. Right click in the terminal window and execute the Profiles|Profile Preferences command.
  2. Check the Show menubar by default in new terminal and close the window.
  3. Double click the apple icon again and the menu should be there.

Always run the CBI with the menubar deactivated.

I have looked at all of the documentation and posts, but I can't seem to find anything on how to enter EDIT mode. I have come to a place in the CBI where it instructs me to do something in the EDITING WINDOW below but I can't access that window. Also, when writing code, which environment are we to use and how do I access EDIT mode there?

Thank you,

Nancy Grimes

I need to know more - where specifically in the CBI? What course, unit, lesson, etc.

Press enter (forward) and it should drop into the editor - are you saying it doesn't do this?

If it does, you are now in an editor that is under cursor control. To get out you press Control Z.

I'm now having problems with this terminal emulation. I'll try to fix it but it may be beyond my control. These emulators have never been reliable.

Thank you for your help.

I hate to continually ask questions but now that I am in the EDITING WINDOW, CONTROL + Z does not get me out. I performed the steps you listed previously to deactive the MENU Bar but it still isn't working. Suggestions?

I've been working on it. I've discovered that the gnome-terminal is very unreliable. Some times it works and then all of a sudden it does not let the program control the input control.

I've been looking at xterm as a replacement and it seems to work fine. However, in the course of testing I discovered that the Exec command for routines does not work properly on GT.M. Once I fix that, I will release the fixes.

Sorry for the delay, but you should just hold off until I get back to you.
