I created the initial suite of categories and forums, only slightly modified from their August 23-24 design. Here are the current categories and forums:

GENERAL MESSAGES (MUMPS USERS GROUP)
Welcome, Rules, and Announcements
Introductions and Profiles
MUMPS Users Group Website
Mumpster
MUMPS Portal at Vistapedia
MUMPS Books
MUMPS News
Other MUMPS Resources

ABOUT MUMPS (MUMPS DISCUSSION & HELP)
General MUMPS Discussion
Standard MUMPS Features
Implementations and Vendor-specific Features
Peer Reviews, Style, and Conventions

LEARN MUMPS (PAIDEIA)
General Paideia Discussion
Paideia 301: Basic MUMPS (MUMPS 1984)

EXTENDING MUMPS (MUMPS DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE)
General MDC Discussion
Station 1: The Standard
Station 2: Validation Suite
Station 3: Reference Implementation
Station 4: The Shell (discussions about MUMPS programming & system-management tools)

If you have any questions or suggestions about this schema, please don't hesitate to say so.

How about an "Announcements" forum somewhere on here,
for new MUMPS-related projects and the suchlike?

We need to have a place to debunk the libelous statements and wrong assumptions out in the popular press. We also need a FAQ for the uninformed to come and learn a more positive slant on the world (as we know it). Part of our education needs to be Senator Burr of North Carolina who was one of the out-spoken opponents of MUMPS and VistA in Senator Akaka's hearings on the 6th of October.

John,

Would "Welcome, Rules, and Announcements" in General Messages work for those kinds of announcements, or do you have something else in mind?

I wonder, in support of that idea, whether "Peer Reviews, Style, and Conventions" is clear enough that it's intended for project discussions. Maybe we should rename it MUMPS Projects and move the old name into the description. Would those two changes cover what you have in mind?

Chris,

"MUMPS News" under General Messages is intended not just for news items but for our responses to them. The theory behind that forum is that we'd run one full thread per news item to give the community an open-ended opportunity to respond to such items. We could make the forum's intentions clearer by renaming it "MUMPS News and Responses." Would this address what you're looking for?

Rick,

To me, the "Welcome, Rules, and Announcements" makes me think of announcements about the forum itself.

I think the projects change is a good idea, and might very well cover what I'm thinking about. I guess I should clarify further... a sample post would be something like:

We would like to announce the release of widget X. It does a, b, and c. Get it <here>. Code for it is <here>.

My thinking is to keep more "advertising" type activities out of the Projects discussion.

Just a thought.

I see. So like a "MUMPS Products and Announcements" forum, under General Messages? I like the idea.

Ha ha ha! Okay. I've renamed "Peer Reviews, Style, and Conventions" as "MUMPS Projects" and updated its description, renamed "MUMPS News" as "MUMPS News and Responses", and created "MUMPS Products and Announcements". Thanks for the feedback. Let me know what we can improve next. :)

Good direction for this site. I have a bunch of projects and ideas I want to propose and there might be a location where white-papers might be put for the more fleshed ideas to begin development from. I have my 4 gig MUMPS and VistA Support and Familiarization DVD (Version 3) out on Dropbox.

Rick, I sent you the link. Do you want to populate this web-site with the full content (or a reasonable subset)? or just publish the URL? It is up to you. Some of the content is yours. This is the collection I made to help train the IRM folks at the VA. As you know, the VA has been hiring folks off the street to replace their retiring expertise and not giving them really any other training. I had been asked to teach less than 20 students, but when the user community found out about the class, it was 57 that were eventually trained in this 6 hour effort. I have gathered all of the self-help and demo environments I could and made them available for people to play with and read about. Obviously, with a system as large and wide-encompassing as VistA, there really should be more training, but it is only now getting started in the VA. Let us get started in getting this training out to others and build up the expertise outside the VA so that the VA has no trouble finding folks who know VistA and MUMPS.
