JUMPS from Medsphere

current version:

platforms:
most java engines

Medsphere is an established installer of VistA Software. This is a Java model of MUMPS. We have not seen it in operation yet.

Ben Mehling told me that Medsphere has changed focus since the development of JUMPS and is instead using their OpenVistA Interface Domain (OVID) for interfacing Java and MUMPS. He says they found JUMPS too slow and that OVID gives them the advantages of JUMPS without that penalty.

However, I know of another Mumpster who is passionate about JUMPS and believes its speed could be increased with a change in the technology used in its underlying architecture.

At this point, those of us outside Medsphere have no idea, since we've never seen JUMPS. I wonder whether Medsphere would be willing to release JUMPS (with suitable caveats about its performance) in its current state as an experimental prototype, for the MUMPS community to explore.

Until such a time, JUMPS remains a mystery to the rest of us, an intriguing idea.

Ben Mehling of Medsphere, who's a member here at Mumpster, could write up a description of OVID. I'm talking with him tomorrow and will ask him to start a thread about it in this forum.

As for JUMPS, I know someone who could describe it well and will ask him to join Mumpster and add to this thread.
